Gratitude is "Contagious!" Spread Joy This Thanksgiving

The mornings are getting chilly. Google said it was 37 degrees this morning when Dianne headed out on her walk! The cool weather means one thing: Thanksgiving is on its way!

Aside from the delicious food, I love Thanksgiving because it beckons us to reflect on what we’re grateful for and share kindness with those around us. This season of abundance offers endless opportunities to make a difference, no matter how much time or energy you have to spare. Here are some inspiring ways to infuse joy and gratitude into your Thanksgiving celebrations.

Quick Acts of Gratitude

Even a few minutes can brighten someone’s day!

1. Write a Thank-You Note

Nothing beats the thoughtfulness of a handwritten note. Write a message of gratitude to a family member, friend, teacher, or mentor who’s positively impacted your life.

2. Share Gratitude Online

Use social media to spread positivity by posting about what you’re thankful for. Please encourage others to share their gratitude and spark a chain reaction of kindness.

3. Donate at Your Gathering

Ask your Thanksgiving guests to bring items for donation, such as warm socks, coats, or canned goods. Combine holiday cheer with a simple way to help those in need.

4. Small Random Acts of Kindness

Pay for a stranger’s coffee, leave an uplifting note in a public place, or surprise a neighbor with a plate of cookies. Small gestures can make a huge impact.

Give Back With a Few Extra Hours

Have a little more time? Here’s how you can make an impact:

Spend a couple of hours beautifying your neighborhood by picking up litter on the streets or a local park. It’s a great way to give back to the environment while fostering community pride.

2. Visit a Nursing Home

Brighten someone’s day with a heartfelt visit to a nursing home or assisted living facility. Share stories, play games, or simply listen. Your presence can be a cherished gift.

3. Volunteer at a Food Bank

Help ensure everyone has a hearty Thanksgiving by volunteering to sort and pack food at your local food bank. Centers like the Monument Crisis Center often need extra hands during the holidays.

Extend Your Table and Your Heart

One of the most heartfelt ways to celebrate Thanksgiving is by inviting others to join your celebration.

1. Welcome Someone New

Open your home to a neighbor, coworker, or friend who might be celebrating alone. Sharing your table and traditions can create lasting memories and meaningful connections.

2. Host a Potluck of Gratitude

Invite guests to bring their favorite dish and a story of gratitude. This creates a heartfelt atmosphere and deepens the meaning of your gathering.

3. Share the Leftovers

If your feast produces an abundance of leftovers, package and deliver them to neighbors, friends, or even a local shelter. Sharing your abundance is a simple yet impactful way to give back.

Make Giving a Tradition

This Thanksgiving, consider making gratitude a family tradition. Whether you create a gratitude jar, spend time volunteering together, or simply reflect on what you’re thankful for around the dinner table, these moments of shared generosity will leave a lasting impression on everyone involved.

Remember, small acts of kindness can have a significant impact. Let’s use this Thanksgiving to lift each other, connect with our communities, and spread joy wherever possible.

Happy Thanksgiving!
